Give it a try!

In order to improve visual perceptual skills, we have created these activities to work on at home. Practicing with these activities will assist your child in improving figure-ground skills. Figure ground skills are the ability to find a specific object or piece out of a larger picture. For example, you would use your figure ground skills to find a specific puzzle piece with a tree on it out of the pile of puzzle pieces.

Activity

Try a scavenger hunt inside your home or in your hard! Come up with a list of items for your child to find in a specific room of your house. We have provided a couple of different scavenger hunt ideas below! Encourage your child to take their time, scan their surroundings and observe the different items in the room. If time allows, have your child attempt a different list each day this week! If the items on these lists do not apply to your child and your home, feel free to come up with your own list. Allowing your child to create a list for you to try and find may be fun and helpful as well! Please make note of what went well and what did not. Contact us with any questions, comments or concerns!

For fun: Try out a fun puzzle! Encourage your child to find different pieces based off of the main image on the box! For example: find the piece with the red car!

Tips

Too easy?

Help your child to find smaller objects that are more close together and may look the same. For example, find one grain of rice, one noodle, etc.

Too challenging?

Help your child to find larger objects that stand out more clearly. For example, find the hot pink mug out of all of the white mugs, the brown chair in the living room, etc.
