Scissor practice

With this activity, we will be working on cutting skills! Something all kids can benefit from. Cutting sounds easy but challenge your student to stay RIGHT on the lines and take their time! They can color the worksheets for added fun before they cut. I have complex cutting worksheets for an added challenge!

PROPER SCISSOR HOLDING - student’s dominant hand holds onto the scissors with their thumb upward and pinky finger points at the floor. The non-dominant hand holds the paper. Make sure the paper moves and turns with the scissors NOT the scissors.

Ways to Modify:

-Make the lines/shapes they are cutting darker/larger by outlining with a black marker so it’s easy to stay on the line

-Instead of cutting have your child tear the horizontal and vertical paper; trying to stay right on the lines! This is a great task to work the fingers and hands.

-Mark the top of the scissors with red tape or glue on googly eyes - this helps the student know to know where to hold scissors so they are not upside down
